This video goes behind the scenes on the set of the hit film Avatar. It goes into depth about the art of performance capture. This revolutionary new film production technique is changing the way CGI characters are developed. The video production technique of performance capture is similar to the more traditional method of motion capture in the sense that the actors movements are captured by a camera and input into a computer to drive the animation of the characters. Whats different with performance capture is that all the actors facial expressions and movements are captured. The development of this film production technique was done exclusively for Avatar.
Avatar has accelerated the development of new video production techniques in a matter of years. Before Avatar it was thought that expensive film production techniques were too costly to use let alone develop them exclusively for one film.
