Our company has been doing a lot of work lately with speakers, trainers, and experts in various fields; individuals who want us to produce videos that showcase their expertise and abilities. One of the concerns I hear a lot from our clients, especially the ones new to being in front of a camera, is about how attractive or appealing they will appear. It’s a common and very understandable worry; no one wants to produce a promotional video that shows them in a negative light, whether it’s their personal appearance or misspeaking in some way. These are common concerns, and I always tell people in these situations something like this: “It’s our job to make you look good. You can trust us to present you in the most positive way possible.”

Of course, it is only natural to worry about your appearance and how your audience will perceive you. After all, you have the most at stake when the video being produced is going to represent your persona and your business to the public. But video production companies doing this kind of work have their reputations at stake as well. This is why trust in the production company you’re working with is very important. You have to have a high level of trust that the company has the judgment to shoot you in the most flattering way (with good lighting, good make-up, good shot composition, good audio) and that they pick the most flattering takes and edit them together in such a way that you appear your best; competent, engaging, and likable.

Having trust in the people you are working with is important in another, not as obvious, way as well. It allows you to be relaxed in your performance. The more relaxed you are, the more confident and personable you will appear on the screen. I can’t overestimate how much a difference this makes. We’ve all seen cheaply produced local commercials that feature stifled, awkward sound bites from employees or leaders of the company (and I’ll admit I was responsible for putting some of these on the air in my early days of local commercial production). Someone who is not relaxed in front of the camera is not going to come across well, and anyone who’s been in front of a camera a few times figures this out quickly.

There are so many small subtle secrets to getting people relaxed and smiling in front of the camera that it could possibly be the subject of an entire book and I won’t go into it here. But you should know that experienced interviewers/videographers have learned these tricks (some of them unconsciously) and that amateurs/beginners just don’t have these skills. It is the reason you see so many awkward talking heads on cheaply made video productions.

When a good production company has you in the studio, their perception of you should be uppermost in their minds. They should shoot you from your best angle. They should light you in the most flattering way. They should ply you with refreshments and beverages and funny jokes to make sure you are comfortable. If your old speech impediment starts to come back, we won’t use that take. If you’ve suddenly contracted elephantiasis and now have a huge fleshy protuberance coming out of your shoulder, they should find a way to shoot around that (unless it is a promotional video for a circus or HBO series.)

To sum up, it is important that you look your best in front of the camera, but part of looking your best is feeling your best. If you don’t feel at ease during a video production, you should ask yourself why. Has the production team not done a good job of setting you at ease? Do you not trust their skills to make you look good? Have you maybe drunk too much coffee? Whatever it is, you should try to figure it out and attempt to address it. Having a good video production team is the first step in making you look your best in your media productions.

Director quits ‘Hobbit’ film over production delay – Yahoo! News

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro said Monday that production delays have forced him to quit the planned film version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” a two-part prequel to New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson’s blockbuster trilogy “Lord of the Rings.”

“In light of ongoing delays in the setting of a start date for filming The Hobbit, I am faced with the hardest decision of my life,” del Toro told a “Lord of the Rings” fan website.

“After nearly two years of living, breathing and designing a world as rich as Tolkien’s Middle Earth, I must, with great regret, take leave from helming these wonderful pictures,” he said, noting the film still hadn’t been given the green light by MGM, the struggling Hollywood studio.

Matt Dravitzki, a spokesman for “Hobbit” producer and “Lord Of The Rings” director Jackson, said del Toro would not be speaking to reporters Monday.

The announcement by del Toro reflected Jackson and del Toro’s “full sentiments at this time,” he said.

Del Toro would continue to co-write the screenplays with Jackson and his wife, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens.

Jackson reached a deal in late 2007 to make two films of “The Hobbit.” He is serving as joint executive producer with Walsh.

Last week, del Toro, who directed “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “Blade II” and the two “Hellboy” movies, told journalists the “Hobbit” films, which have been plagued by delays, still hadn’t been given the go ahead.

“There cannot be any start dates until the MGM situation gets resolved,” del Toro said. “They do hold a considerable portion of the rights.”

Reports emerged late last year that MGM was teetering on bankruptcy and del Toro said those issues had caught the “Hobbit” films in a “tangled negotiation.”

“We have designed all the creatures. We’ve designed the sets and the wardrobe. We have done animatics and planned battles sequences … We are very, very prepared for when it is finally triggered,” he said.

Jackson told http://www.TheOneRing.net: “We feel very sad to see Guillermo leave The Hobbit, but he has kept us fully in the loop and we understand how the protracted development time on these two films, due to reasons beyond anyone’s control, has compromised his commitment to other long term projects.

“The bottom line is that Guillermo just didn’t feel he could commit six years to living in New Zealand, exclusively making these films, when his original commitment was for three years. Guillermo is one of the most remarkable creative spirits I’ve ever encountered and it has been a complete joy working with him.”

He would discuss options for a new director with MGM this week, Jackson told the website.

“We do not anticipate any delay or disruption to ongoing preproduction work,” he said.

Last month, Jackson dismissed rumors that the “Hobbit” movies have been delayed by production problems, insisting the project was still in its early stages.

He told Moviefone.com, “Well, it’s not really been delayed, because we’ve never announced the date. I mean it’s sort of interesting because the studio has never greenlit The Hobbit, so therefore The Hobbit has never been officially announced as a ‘go’ project, nor have we ever announced a date.”

The recipe for making concrete is very simple. The ingredients are Portland cement, sand, gravel and water. Sand and gravel are referred to as aggregates. Sometimes other aggregates such as crushed stone or cinders are used.

When Portland cement is mixed with water a chemical reaction takes place which makes the cement harden. In doing so it binds together the sand and gravel mixed with it to become one solid rocklike mass.

Many varieties of cement are made of which five are commonly used and available at most suppliers.

STANDARD CEMENT. This is ordinary grey cement. Used for all general construction. If you don’t specify otherwise this is what you will get when you buy cement.

WHITE CEMENT. Similar in all properties to standard cement except that it is white in color. Used to mix light colored concrete and mortar and for making colored cement.

HIGH EARLY STRENGTH CEMENT. Hardens and develops strength much faster than standard cement. Allows quick use of driveways and walks.

AIR ENTRAINED CEMENT. This is not as strong as standard cement but has high resistance to frost and salt. Useful where salt is applied for ice and snow removal.

MASONRY CEMENT. A special mixture for use with sand to make mortar. Has more plasticity, water retention and ease of handling.

The type of concrete mix is expressed by three numbers such as 1:2:4 which means 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 4 parts gravel or stone. To make good concrete you must measure ingredients accurately.

If you don’t want to mix your own you can buy,at somewhat higher cost, prepackaged mixes. These contain the right proportion of ingredients to which you only need to add water.

Concrete can be mixed by hand on a plywood sheet at least 4 by 6 feet. It can also be mixed on a

concrete sidewalk or driveway. Mix the cement and sand till completely blended then add the gravel and mix till coated with cement. Make a crater in the middle of the pile and pour in about half the measured amount of water. Rake the sides of the pile up and into the water. When all the water is absorbed make a new crater and add the rest of the water.

Mixing large amounts of concrete by hand is hard work. It is better to buy or rent a concrete mixer if you need a lot of concrete. These instructions for how to make concrete are very simple and will provide you with good concrete.

You can also make your own concrete blocks using hand made molds. This is a great home business opportunity. Concrete blocks are always in strong demand everywhere and you can have a home part time business supplying them to building supply stores or directly to consumers.

Working from your garage your costs are very low and you can turn out a quality product at a very competitive price. When you reach the stage of needing increased production you can build a concrete block making machine from auto parts and sheet metal

This home built concrete block machine can turn out 800 or more blocks per day and is every bit as good as a commercial model which costs thousands of dollars. Plans and instructions for making the machine and the hand molds are readily available.

Would you like to know how to make molds and a concrete block making machine? Would you like to have your own business manufacturing concrete blocks? See our website for lots of information and available plans: http://www.concreteblockmaker.com

Have you seen the new electrohouse nudisco music video from Grum? It’s called “I Can’t Shake This Feeling” and the arrival of Grum is already causing hyperbolic excitement amidst the house / electro / disco community in anticipation of his forthcoming full length release “Heartbeats” which you can get more information on at his official website www.heart-beats.co.uk

You’ll definitely want to check out the new video to Grum’s “I can’t Shake This Feeling” on youtube as part of the build up for the offical album launch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t0Ef1Fs2Hw

“I Can’t Shake This Feeling” is a great feel good club track with impecable production continuing the renewal of house music with 80′s style electro vibes – incorporating bold synthesized stabs and drum sounds and all round streamlined, polished and synthetic sonic aesthetic. It seems in injecting these past influence

Grum is part of the huge movement of electro, synth disco and funky electrohouse that is enjoying a massive resurgence at the beginning of the new decade, and Grum comes from the stable of pedigree that includes Mylo who was the producer de jour of the electrohouse movement as it bubbled away in the middle of the first decade of the 21st century when Mylo’s “Drop The Pressure” became a land mark track.

Funky and and disco influenced soulful deep house came to prominence in the mid to late 90′s with the arrival of the french house sound championed by acts such as Daft Punk, and saw hits such as “Music Sounds Better With You” by Stardust top the charts internationally, to be followed by more funky house classics such as “Lady” and “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)” by Spiller which blew the sound up worldwide.

It was perhaps at this point that the house sound which was traditionally soulful and funky lost it’s edge as it became more mainstream, while underground audiences sought something edgier, giving rise to the Electroclash movement which saw the overproduced, overthough house sound eschewed in favour of a punkier aesthetic driven by the do-it-yourself ethos of a new type of laptop based producers working out of their bedroom’s – just like Grum. Fischerspooner was a key Electroclash act that rose to prominence which has been name checked by Grum as an influence in renewing and bringing previously overlooked 80′s themes and techniques into the 21st century with deft precision.

It was then to be huge hits such as Benny Bennassi’s “Satisfaction” Fedde Le Grande’s “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit” Eric Prydez’s reworking of 8o’s classic “Call On Me” and of course Mylo’s “Drop The Pressure” that cemented the return of house music to mainstream audiences under a new guise: That of electrohouse.

But what has been fascinating has been the embrace of Hip Hop artists who are now using more electrohouse influenced productions on chart topping hits that has made electrohouse bigger and more influential than ever and the signature sound of brash keyboard stabs and synthetic drum sounds can be heard on many of the biggest hits in the top 40 now. The punters are really going for Grum’s new single “I Can’t Shake This Feeling” – here’s what they’re saying around the blogs:“He may reside in Leeds but Grum certainly ain’t grim – he’s super, super!”

“New Grum original track. It’s a doozy. The music video is fantastic as well, combining 4 of mans favourite things: Grum, babes, food, n humour.”

“Damn Grum’s got it right. A video based around tasty girls scarfing piles of food. wow. Delicious.”

“EARGASM! I kid you not . . . it has got a really 80s vibe to it. In any case, its a superb kind of funk. You can also expect Grum’s usual killer beats mixed in. Can’t wait to hear more. As for the video, well, you decide. One of the funniest stuff I’ve seen this week.”

“At first I was like, “Cmon, another slow motion video? And even more, a slow motion video of girls and food.” But no, I was wrong. There is more to this video that more frames per second. Be sure to check out this one for some good times.”

Apparently Grum was named for being a “grumpy bastard” in his younger days, which is somehwhat bemusing given the feel good factor behind is groovy electro house music. The song in particular is reminiscent of many 80′s pop classics with a soaring female vocal that sounds a little like Laura Brannigan who had hits with “Gloria” and “Self Control”

The video is a bold mix of the sexual and erotic, with the disturbing and somewhat gruesome footageof sexy girls stuffing their faces with all types of food laid out for them by a sleazy disco style director. But it also tells a humourous narrative of a father seeing his daughter portrayed in one of these videos as he sets out to rescue her from iniquity. The video closes as the father bursts into the studio reproaching the sleazy director with the humourous slogan “We’ve got plenty of spaghetti!”

I myself had never heard of “Feeder” videos but apparently this is an established genre in adult movies. There has been thematic comparisons with the video for Simian Mobile Disco’s “Hustler” which also features attractive girls, but from Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction” to Eric Prydez “Call On Me” I think you can safely say that within the genre there is an established tradition of combining gorgeous girls with somewhat bizarre and abstract items and contexts.Whatever the case be sure to check out this electrohouse music video from Grum for yourself: “I Can’t Shake This Feeling”! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t0Ef1Fs2Hw
